First in Flight

North Carolina, First in Flight… this tag line is on the state’s license plate and most commonly affiliated with the state. In 1903 the Wright Brothers made the first successful powered flight by man at Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk. The Wright Memorial at Kitty Hawks now commemorates their achievement. Kitty Hawk, North Carolina is located near the Outer Banks, which hosts some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

North Carolina is the next stop in our United States of Energy data series ranking number 21 in residential electricity prices compared to 52 other US states averaging $10.12 Megawatts per hour. Major electric power plants include coal, hydroelectric and natural gas. North Carolina is one of the top nuclear power producers in the United States. In addition to production, there are many cities in North Carolina that contribute to great site seeing in the state. Highpoint is known as the Furniture Capital of the World and draws in interior designers and buyers from all over the world annually. Krispy Kreme Doughnut was founded in Winston-Salem. The Biltmore Estate located in Ashville is America’s largest home, and includes a 255- room chateau, an award winning winery and extensive gardens.
